Ions form in order to satisfy the octet rule. what is this rule and what makes following it so awesome?

    The octet rule is that every noble gas has eight electrons in it's outer shell. And all the others want to satisfy the octet rule in order to become noble gases.

    ^ Sort of. Elements want to have an octet in their valence shell because it makes them more stable.
