I guess literary devices give emphasis and emotion in the writings of poets and writers. For example, figurative language is used to express emotions, convey abstract ideas, and reveal the writer's style. If figurative language did not exist, then most writings would be literal and possess the same objective style as textbooks. I personally appreciate and use literary devices, such as sarcasm and metaphor, in everyday conversation and writings because they make everyday life more enjoyable, I guess.
