anonymous 4 years ago Need help please show me the steps so i know how to do this. Thanks. -4(x^-3y^-1)^-2

1. King

$-4(x ^{-3y ^{-1}})^{-2}$ ???

2. anonymous

just put the y^-1 down like the x is

3. King

what?

4. Akshay_Budhkar

$-4(x^{-3}y^{-1})^{-2}$

5. Akshay_Budhkar

?

6. anonymous

yes akshay

7. Akshay_Budhkar

ok so we go on solving using the basic equation $x^{-a}={1 \over x^a}$

8. King

-4 x^6 y^2?

9. Akshay_Budhkar

so we have $x^{-3}={ 1 \over x^3} , y^{-1}={1 \over y^1}$

10. Akshay_Budhkar

similarly we have$(x^{-3}y^{-1})^{-2}={1 \over(x^3y)^2}$

11. Akshay_Budhkar

so your answer is $-4 x^6y^2$

12. Akshay_Budhkar

sorry for late replies, net problem

13. Akshay_Budhkar

is it clear?
