You are to form a 5 digit number from the digits 1,2,4,6,7,8, and 9, using each at most once. Total possible = 2520 How many of these (total) are less than 50000?___

    1080 are less than 50000, because the for the first number you have 3 choices. Then each number you chose after that reduces the number of choices by one. So you started with 7 therefore you do 3*6*5*4*3 which gives you 1080
