    the opposite of b (8) = -8

    plus or minus sqrt(b^2-4ac) the square root of (8^2-4(2)(1)) = sqrt(56)

    your two solutions are 8+sqrt(56) = 8 + 2sqrt(14) divided by two is 4 + sqrt(14) since we have to do plus or minus the other solution is 4 - sqrt(14)
