    \[{z\over-28}= 49-44\]\[{z\over-28}=5\]\[z=-140\]

How did you get -140? I got up to z/-28=5, but I don't know how you did the rest.

You bring -28 over the other side, thereby multiplying 5 by -28.

    \[z/-28+44 = 49\] first you might like to multiply by reciprocal -28+44 ( z /-28+44 ) = 49 (-28+49) z = 49 (- 28 + 49) can you do the rest?

    z/-28+44 = 49 -28+44 [ z / -28+44 = 49 ] z = 49( -28+44 ) z = 784
