You have to square them: 3.30^2, 3.31^2 etc then you have to choose the biggest number which is less than 11
phi
  • phi
sqrt(11) = 3.31662479 see the 1 in the hundreths position? look at the number after it

when you round, you drop all the numbers after the hundreths. That is why we are doing this, to make the number simpler.

So 3.326? or 3.32?
anonymous
  • anonymous
3.32 right? (:
phi
  • phi
you start with sqrt(11) = 3.31662479 then find the hundreths spot (it is 1). Look at the number after the 1. It is 6 write 3.32 (change the 1 to a 2. Drop all the other numbers)
