Is -3xy ^{4} considered a monomial of degree 5?

    The whole monomial, binomial system is differentiated only by how many terms you have in the polynomial. I.e. in yours you only have one term, -3xy^4. In a binomial you'd have -3xy^4 + 6x^3*y or something.
