a passenger trains speed is 60mi/h and freight trains speed is 40mi/h the passenger train travels the same distance in 1.5h less than freight train. how long does each train take to make a trip

    If you just start thinking about 1hour the passengers will go 60miles and the freight 40m so it makes sense that the freight needs 30 more min to catch up right ? so in 3 hours the passengers will go 180 miles... the freight will then be at 120 and will need 3x30min to catch up right ? I'm gona go with 3hours and 4.5hours

    velocity times time is distance, and the distances are equal, so we can set the following expressions equal\[v_1t_1=v_2t_2\]\[60(t-1.5)=40t\]solve for t. One time will be t and the other will be t-1.5.
