how can i determine if the potential difference across each component (e.g voltage and resistor) and is positive or negative?

    |dw:1330018145660:dw|if we go in the positive direction (starting from the positive terminal of the battery) the voltage drop across a resistor is negative\[\Delta V=IR\]if we go from the negative end of the terminal the voltage change is positive I is the current, R is the resistance, and V is the voltage
