Nelly has been loyal and disapproved of many characters in Wuthering Heights. She has lived all of her life in the moors, has grown up with Hindley and Catherine, and has helped the Earnshaw family since her childhood. Living with the Earnshaw family made Nelly aware of who each character is. Nelly is at first a simple housekeeper, but becomes a mother to Hareton and learns to love him. When Nelly says “He held the knife in his hand, and pushed its point between my teeth; but, for my part, I was never much afraid of his vagaries,” here we see Nelly is not scared of Hindley and has developed to understand each characters personality. Nelly first uses an wrathful and audacious tone, chastising Hareton, before converting into a braver tone to display that she does not fear him. Through Nelly’s point of view the reader could see her development as a character; she is portrayed as a character that does not usually allow the reader to be pulled into the conflicts that the rest of the characters embroil themselves in. She is able to stand back from the situation and give sound advice. Nelly uses various figurative language techniques, tones, and points of view in her development as a character that has become stronger since she was introduced until this point in the following passage. Nelly uses examples of simile, hyperbole, and visual imagery to show her development as a narrator and character. In lines 12-13 Nelly says Hindley was “pulling me back by the skin of my neck, like a dog” Nelly says Hindley was chocking her, but it was all a confusion it was not meant for her but for Hareton, here she knows Hindleys personality so she does not do nothing. In lines 7-8 a hyoperbole is used “being flung into the fire or dashed against the wall” in this quote Hareton knows Hindley is going to hurt him, so instead of being thrown into fire or into a wall he remains quiet in a place Nelly put him, showing a caring and positive side of Nelly against Hareton. Visual imagery is used in lines 29-30:”He held the knife in his hand, and pushed it’s point between my teeth”, here Nelly is being tortured by Hindley and develops a angry moment but being part of developing as a character is understanding the other character. In this passage we can see Nelly develop into a stronger and caring character for Hareton, which she is going to be in charge of raising him. This passage has a tone of Audacious and wrathful. Nelly uses a wrathful tone to show she is somewhat angry with Hindley, but developing from one character into another is an important role that plays in the novel. In the following passage it goes from a wrathful tone to a audacious and Nelly becomes brave and not afraid to say what she feels in a manner way. To this point Nelly develops different points of view for the other characters. Each different quote or idea Nelly uses she develops from a minor character into a more important narrator and character position in the novel, with the different personalities of characters she has to deal with.
you have alot of run on sentences clumped together, and your conclusion is restatement of your thesis.Find your thesis and tie in all the elements in the paragraphs, a conclusion does not have to long at all.
As mimmimlove23 said, you have to find your thesis, and some how conclude with all that you have written. Whatever you belief was about Nelly, bring it out in the conclusion and and state it confidently since throughout your essay you have been proving it.
