So those Linuxes are all completely free software (free as in free speech)? Are those GNU sponsored ones as powerful as the mainstream Linuxes? Might try Parabola; it's based on the one I am currently using (archlinux)

Have you ever tried BackTrack? I found it really cool, to be honest, even though I don't know how to use it to 10% of its potential, haha :-)

backtrack is basically for network security related stuff mainly, if you are starting then you can try ubuntu
