The diagram below shows a plane slicing a rectangular prism along the diagonals of its side faces. The shaded figure shows the cross section obtained. Which is closest to the area of the cross section? Answer 48 square inches 54 square inches 68 square inches 80 square inches

    The cross section is a rectangle with length= the diagonal of the face with sides 3 inches and 6 inches breadth=the breadth of the prism= 8 inches \[length=\sqrt{6^2+3^2}=6.70\ inches\] Area=length * breadth= 6.7*8=53.6 or 54 inches
