    when organisms reproduce, they make copies of their dna to be passed down to the next generation. when mistakes are made during the copying procedure, it is called a mutation.

    A mutation is a permanent change in the DNA sequence of a gene.Sometimes mutations in DNA can cause changes in the way a cell behaves.
