Without having more context for the question it might be tricky to answer. However, think about the various functions of bacteria. One example you're probably familiar with is decomposition. Bacteria that feed on decomposing flesh or plant matter serve a role in the ecosystem - that role is waste removal. Out with the old, in with the new! Another good example is the process of nitrogen conversion to create ammonia, a plant nutrient.
