If I'm am going to make a bottle cap table and the table is going to be 3' x 4' how do I determine how many caps are needed if they will be staggered and not side by side? I think each cap is around 1" dia.

ends up being about 16 per 4 in cubed

or 144 per square foot

I've done that, a friend just said "oh, there is a alogarithm to do that" but it's beyond me. it is 144 per square foot if they are lined up but it's different if they are staggared. I've done that too

3 x 4 = 12 sq ft 12 x 144 = 1728 bottle caps

hehe yes there is an equation we can come up with to calculate it in an ideal situation although you will find that in life nothing is ideal.. there will be gaps inbetween each one and its better just to do estimate like i did

the "exact" number will actually be too many

there will actually be a gap right there
eyust707
  • eyust707
that must be accounted for
eyust707
  • eyust707
also on the edges you can not place the "extra" ones so you need to calculate how many to subtract off or not include
