thank you, but the choices i have to choose from are (Bg=2 1/4 Ge=6 3/4) (BG=6 GE=3) (BG=4 1/2 GE=4 1/2) OR (BG=3GE=6) so which of those would it be?

Then I think that when you wrote originally that BE = 12, you meant BE = 9, because obviously BG + GE = BE, and all of your choices add up to 9. So, you need to choose two numbers that add to nine, such that one of the numbers is twice the other one. The one that is twice the other one is the length from the vertex to the centroid. The other number is the centroid to the opposite side. So the answer is BG = 3, GE = 6.
