I'm sure @cshalvey will be more than happy to help out if there are things that are violating our Code of Conduct in there. It's an unofficial group, which means we don't list it on the site, so we haven't been policing those as vigorously as we would be normally.
So, I'll just click the Report Abuse button then? ^_^
Sure, that works as well.
Great, thanks for the help. ^_^
Lol im sorry, but I couldnt help to see you say Report Abuse button. Im not the person to really say anything, but since I dont wanna get reported randomly I would like to ask that no one really deserves to be reported unless they are spamming after warnings or using foul language.
Hey Carniel, It's not a matter of whether or not someone deserves to get reported. There are a lot of things other than spamming or foul language that are covered by the Code of Conduct, such as demanding personally identifiable information from another user multiple times. I'm sure those are situations where you'd want to utilize the report abuse functionality as well.
Yes I agree. There are some times that people really do need to be reported. I don't really have a say in the matter, but sometimes they just need to be muted instead of insta-ban. Although I understand what your saying others just learn from a warning or two.
Btw Hey Farm :)
Hi Carniel! :D It really bugs me that you think that using Report Abuse results in an insta-ban though, because it really doesn't. :\
Im sorry. I've seen atleast two people who were reported then banned the same day.
Well, we only immediately suspend people if they're doing things that are obviously with malicious intent or illegal. That said, it is entirely possible that someone is reported and is suspended later that day, but it's only after we've tried to reach out to them by DM, Warnings, and then they continue to cause problems.
We try to do all of that in private, one on one with the user to try and have a conversation with them about what they are doing wrong. Some are OK with it and being following the CoC, others just ignore us, and some even send us some pretty entertaining messages back. But the goal is always to attempt to resolve the situation without using the moderator toolkit, if possible.
So I guess I was wrong. Im very sorry.
It's fine. Unfortunately, there are a lot of users who have this perception that we just hit the suspend button as soon as we see something remotely wrong, and that's a problem we need to solve from a community relations standpoint.
In a way I agree with that
Bascially from a mods point of view
Yeah sometimes users are not real receptive to "suggestions". One time I posted in a reply to one of several exam questions in Writing Group: "Please don't post exam questions one after the other. This is considered cheating and is against OpenStudy's terms and conditions. I just thought I'd let you know since you're new. Just post one question and we will walk you through it so that you can answer similar questions on your own. Thanks." User's reply: "Shut up and get outa my question."
