Now, since x+y=50, subsitute to get (x-y)(50)=25^2 Now, we have a system of equations. x-y=25*25/50 x+y=50 Add first and second equation to get x+x-y+y=25*25/50+50 2x=25/2+50 x=125/4 Resubstitute to check my answer.
