A property of absolute values states that |x - a| < b = -b < x - a < b = -b + a < x < b + a For example, suppose we had |2x + 7| < 5 Then it becomes: -5 < 2x + 7 < 5 and the goal is to isolate x Therefore we subtract 7 from all sides: -5 - 7 < 2x < 5 - 7 Simplying, we get: -12 < 2x < -2 Dividing all sides by 2: -6 < x< -1 Once x is isolated completely, we are done.

Hi @Counterfeit - we here at OpenStudy are NOT here to provide you with just answers - both @Hero and @CoCoTsoi offered to help, but you refused them. If you continue this kind of behavior, you will be asked to leave OpenStudy. If you want to stay and learn, by all means, please do. Thank you!

Ok, well according to what you wrote here, the help you wanted was: "Can you just type me the answer so i can get over with this test??? PLEASE" So no, you won't get that kind of help here. I'm not trying to be confrontational here @Counterfeit - which is why I'm talking to you as opposed to taking any other actions. But if you sincerely want help, I'd suggest asking for it - at no point in this question did you say what you didn't understand. You just 'didn't get it' and then just asked for the answer.
