Why is CaF2 not a molecular formula? Which of the following is not an example of a molecular formula? a. H2O c. CaF2 b. NH3 d. O2 The answer is C and I am confused as to why.

    CaF2 is an ionic compound, since its the only substance in ur group that is formed with a non-melta and a metal

    The fastest way to tell the difference between a molecular formula and a formula unit is to look at the composition of the particle. If the elements are both nonmetals, it is a molecule. If the elements contain a metal, it is ionic. C has the only instance of a metal and a nonmetal; thus it is an ion.
