it is situated in the epigastric and left hypochondriac regions of the abdominal cavity. its head lies in the curve of the duodenum, its body behind the stomach and the tail lies in front of the left kidney and just reaches the spleen in case of human. the abdominal aorta and the inferior vena cava lie behind the gland.
yes it is in the abdomen. in case u meant whether it is an intraperitoneal or retroperitoneal (meaning not in the main abdominal compartment with most of the intestines), then it is retroperitoneal. when a surgeon opens up the abdomen - he cannot directly touch the pancreas. he must move aside other tissue, and then cut through the mesothelium to get to the pancreas
