Hey folks, welcome to the new Music group. @Dyiliq will be group moderator for the time being.
shadowfiend
  • shadowfiend
Of course site moderators will also be around and keeping an eye on things. Note that this group is not for talking about what music you like and what have you. As always, if you wish, you can do that in group chat. The kinds of things that *are* allowed in this group: - Discussions and questions on musical theory. - Discussions and questions on instruments, instrumentation, composition, songwriting, etc. - Posting your own original work for feedback and criticism (as usual, please be respectful). Do NOT: - Post YouTube videos for other artists. - Post SoundCloud links for other artists. - Post questions about what people's favorite genres are. Remember, this is still a study site, and we want to have a music group. We're running this experiment to see if this group can be successful; however, if things don't work out, we won't hesitate to delete the group. Thanks, and enjoy!

Please also note that we have to enforce the general site rules in this group, so posting explicit lyrics and such will not be okay.

shadowfiend
  • shadowfiend
That decision is not up for discussion or debate. Feel free to send an email to contact@openstudy.com . We'll be looking to add one more person as group moderator in the near future depending on how active this group becomes.

As with other groups, no, though you may attempt to get attention to your question through the music chat as you can with other chats.

Your guidelines? Not sure. And it's weird that you didn't get notified for the tag. We'll have a look.

As this is where a great deal of my expertise lies, I'll encourage questions on the following: "music equipment guidance and repair", "live sound engineering", and "recording and production technique", @shadowfiend if there are any disagreements , there's that little red word in the bottom right corner----->

We set the ground rules out clearly because it's easy to misinterpret the music group as something that isn't focused on learning, but it *is* focused on learning. Basically, we wanted to make sure that everyone knew the expectations so that if and when moderators felt the need to take action, the reasons would be clear. That is all.

but, your putting restrictions on everybody's songs/ raps so how can they find out if its truly good if the words are all being blocked?
farmdawgnation

Consider it a challenge to be more creative in their lyrics. If they feel the CoC is stifling their creativity, they can go elsewhere. Music group isn't exactly what this site is built for anyway.

FYI: Dyiliq is no longer the topic mod. There is none at this time. However, all site mods will enforce this set of rules, as laid out by the Admins when the Music subject area was created.

i have one thing to say this site would not be anything without us so if you want to take away the music group we will take over another one and still post things about music and you cannot take away freedom of speech
jigglypuff314
  • jigglypuff314
@okagurao well actually, yes we would like for everyone that's posting their "lyrics" to try posting it into the Writing or English section instead. and we won't be taking away the music group anytime soon, just taking the chatter out of it. like suspending people that use derogatory or suggestive phrases in their "rap battles" and freedom of speech is an American thing, we've got plenty of people from all around the world :P and @e.mccormick how and why did you find this post from way back when???
e.mccormick
  • e.mccormick
@okagurao "i have one thing to say this site would not be anything without us" That is an ambiguous argument. See, you have a site with specific goals. Now, you have people that help reach those goals and you have people that abuse the site. If the site owners got rid of every person in the second group, it would be a lot easier to reach those goals. So actually, the site would e a lot better without people that abuse the rules. Then what would be left are people seeking an education, which would make the site great. "if you want to take away the music group we will take over another one and still post things about music" That is a threat. Do you really want to be banned? I mean, you are threatening criminal action. Did you ever think about the agreements you made when you came on this site? See, you break them, and you get suspended or banned. Come on anyway and then you fall into a CFAA violation that has both criminal and civil consequences. Why not follow the rules instead? "you cannot take away freedom of speech" What freedom of speech? Have you actually read the law? Ever heard of a non disclosure agreement? Perfectly legal. Ever heard of employees being fired for swearing at customers? Perfectly legal. Freedom of speech and the press is only applied when the government tries to suppress truths that are not an issue of national security. All of this comes from two parts of the Constitution of the United States of America, and there are similar doctrines in other countries. Fist, they have the right to make all laws as needed: "To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof." Second, there are some laws they can not make, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." OpenStudy is \(\textbf{not}\) congress. Therefore, if they want to make a rule about what goes on their web site, they can. It is 100% legal. Also, liable and slander laws have existed forever. Why? Because these are not seen as free speech or free press. They are seen as lies, fraud, etc. Therefore, there are even limits on free speech that go all the way back to the Constitution and the founders. Before you quote law, you need to learn what it means. In this case, it does not even apply. A corporation has every legal right to restrict what content is put on its web site. They have everyone who uses the site agree to follow that rule. If users don't like it, they are perfectly free not to use the site and to go elsewhere. @jigglypuff314 "how and why did you find this post from way back when??? " Easily and because some people simply do not get the origin of the rules. It was not something the moderators just came up with. These are the site administrators at the time the music group was made and they were laying out very clear intentions for the music group. They want it used for music education topics. Period. "well actually, yes we would like for everyone that's posting their "lyrics" to try posting it into the Writing or English section instead. " Incorrect. As Shadowfiend pointed out, the "Posting your own original work for feedback and criticism" is allowed. It comes down to what is education in a formal topic. Rap Battles are not allowed because they are not a formal topic. However, the creation of original work is something taught in school. However, if a person is just doing lyric after lyric, without ever completing the piece, it can eventually be seen as just spamming. This is because it is not really an original work if you never finish it. It is also not furthering studies if you never take things to completion. The rules for language use, etc. apply. So if some lyrics are of an explicit nature, this is the wrong site for it.
