Multiply (y + 3x = 1) by 2. Then subtract the result from (2y 5x = 31). This will eliminate y and enable you to find the value of x. Can you try this?

as y=313x then 12(313x)5x=31 372+36x5x=31 31x=372+31 x=13 and y=8 (13,8)
