This is intentional. Medals Received = All medals. Medal for Answers = Medals from the asker of the question you responded to. Medals for Asking = Medals from someone else on a question you asked.

Thanks for clearing that up, @farmdawgnation Am I correct in assuming that the difference between (Medals for Answers + Medals for Asking) and Medals Received is the amount of medals awarded for your answers by "non-askers"? (That is - people other than the asker of the question you answered?)
