I hope there isn't an obvious answer to this question that I missed, but here it is: Is there any way to know how close you are to having your SmartScore go up?

Short answer: Nope. SmartScore measures your participation relative to the other users on the site, so theoretically a progress bar would be useless because how close you are to the next level depends not only on your own activity but on everyone else's as well.
