Use complete sentences to explain what piece of the quadratic equation causes its graph to open up or down. Approximate the coordinates of the vertex and x-intercepts of the parabola.

    y = -x^2 + 1 vertex: (0 , 1) x intercepts: (1 , 0) & (-1 , 0) it opens down because the coefficient of the x^2 term is negative.
