I hate the word "mediate". What could I use instead of the word "mediate" in this context?: "GABA mediates most of the synaptic inhibition in the central nervous system".

    How about... "GABA" reconciles with most of the synaptic inhibition in the central nervous system" ? "GABA" intercedes most of the synaptic inhibition in the central nervous system" ? Hope this helps :)
