what came first, the fruit orange or the color orange?

    The color, I would expect. It seems very unlikely people would not have distinguished the color from both red and yellow, and had a word for it, until they had seen an orange.

    Well @Carl_Pham, the color itself obviously existed prior to the fruit, but use of the word "Orange" was first for the fruit and only later the color.

    God said, Let there be light. and since light is comprised of all colors (including orange), it was there first.
