Why did the United States in the 20th century choose to support "Rightist" dictators in Latin America, that were committing atrocities against their citizens?

    Thanks a lot this has cleared up so many questions. It's really quite unfortunate though, but I am glad I can begin to understand the thinking behind the decisions.

    no problem and yeah it is sad, america doesn't typically get involved until we are directly affected, like ww2, like cambodian genocide and more but oh well glad i helped!(:
