I am signed up! Good thinking!
I'll be around but I'm lagging behind something fierce, right now I'm working on problem set 2. Or, at least that's what I'll be on tomorrow once I finish watching all the videos. I just finished up problem set 1 earlier this evening. I'm taking 18.01SC (the first Calculus) class at the same time so my time's a bit split between the two, though I'll try to keep up.
huuhhh..? how's that mm? still innocent
Jainessleiclaro you can find information in below link. https://www.edx.org/courses/MITx/6.00x/2012_Fall/about If you like it you can join and grant a certificate if you pass the exam :)
Shahrouz i am with you :D i registered for the above course though i have watched videos till the lec. 5 Looking forward for the classes
COOL, it is getting more EXCITING... Welcome to the party :)
Me too, I plan on just continuing with this course until October when that one starts though. I figure it can't possibly hurt to be "more" prepared :)
That is also wise. let study and watch as much as we can but still get together on the course. It should benefit us the most.
By the way whats the difference between the edX courses and the ones available at MIT OCW?
The impression I got was that they're functionally the same. However, you actually have to turn your work in for the edX one. I might be mistaken though, I didn't even realize the edX one existed until @Shahrouz pointed it out :)
yep read the whole thing getting passing grade will give us an honor code certificate How about we also introduce ourselves here? just an ice-breaker Me, i am from India, Bangalore... currently pursing 3rd year (5th sem) in CSE from the Visvesvaraya Technological University and the reason i am taking these courses is that i want to get my base as strong as possible
Hey there Aleem, I'm from Minnesota (USA) ... I'm actually already a software engineer (have been for a couple decades) but it's been FOREVER since I was in school. I'm just brushing up on current technologies, and for some strange reason I find this interesting and fun :)
Howdy! My name is Jesse Jayne and I am taking this class because I want to see if it is something I want to pursue further. I am from Indiana in the States. I decided to just copy and paste an about me from another site because I am tired. It is almost 9am here and my head has yet to meet my pillow. I have really enjoyed learning what I have with the help of you fine gentlemen and I look forward to our future endeavors. I love music. I couldn't live without it. Quotes are also a passion of mine. Black and white cats are my weakness. I love just hanging out and talking, sitting on a blanket and staring at the clouds, and writing in my journal. Listening to people and having crazy, silly inside jokes. My friends call me a hippie. I only wish I was that cool. I don't eat meat, but I could care less if you do. I am one of the most liberal people you will ever meet. I am a Pisces, so compassion and sensitivity are my middle names. I love dragonflies, naps and peach tea. Friendship and love are the most important things to me. I will do almost anything for my friends, just ask. Our door is always open and we want everyone to feel and make themselves at home. I love meditation and use it almost daily. I believe with intense focused thought almost anything is possible. I love my pets as my own children and they are treated as members of the family. My wife is "Mamma G" and I am "Mamma J". My hero is John Lennon and I look up to him for many aspects of my life. I have lyrics from his song Imagine tattooed on the inside of my arm and I think it not only provides inspiration but sums up my attitude on life. "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one." I'm also a big nerd, I love to play RPGs and MMOs. I was a chemistry major for two years so I like to help people with that in my free time. Well if anyone is still reading this post, congrats! You should get a cookie. <3
@jessejayne what games? I've played my share of both single player RPGs and MMOs /grins Also, vegan here (though not absolute, I do it because it makes me feel better overall, same reason I'm addicted to the beachbody.com workouts). I am ... not fond of cats. Though I adore my puppy.
I have a service dog and she is the light of my life. :) What kind of dog do you have? I have played to name a few: Neverwinter Nights, Guild Wars, Diablo I (I know somebody shoot her, she didn't finish the series!), WoW, Order and Chaos, The Witcher, ect. I have also spent countless hours playing Dnd. (sniff sniff, God rest Ellyjobell's soul. (Only the greatest DnD char to ever roll the dice) Unfortunately I love cheese too much to be vegan. And my wife is an ice cream addict so she might leave me. lol
Ours is a 4.5 month old border collie german shepherd mix who has entirely too much energy for her own good. We had both a yellow lab and a border collie but lost them both to age in the past year and finally decided it was time for a new era in puppies a couple weeks ago. Our little mix is a nice combo of the border collie cleverness and the cuddly affection I loved in my lab. I love seafood too much to declare myself "truly" all-the-time vegan, show me some mussels or steelhead and I'm like "Who? What? Vegan? Where?" Recently I played Diablo III which I only found entertaining when playing in hardcore mode ... hardcore was wicked fun though (I also played I and II back in the day). Most of my WoW guild is on hiatus (we're a small guild and usually take breaks between expansions) but we keep in touch via a facebook group and will all log back in long enough to level up to 90 and beat the new raid content when MoP comes out, then probably go back on hiatus again. My true love in MMOs is, and will probably always be, the original Everquest. Recently I've been playing there on one of the progression servers, totally fun :) From a single player perspective, I enjoy Skyrim and Oblivion on my xBox and fire up an emulator every so often to replay Zeldas and Final Fantasies. I really miss the old NES and PS1 days ... From a non RPG perspective, my favorite game right now is probably Fruit Ninja on the xBox360 with Kinect ... there's something crazy addictive about punching and kicking fruit out of mid air ... I realize this probably makes me quite odd. Are you only taking the CS courses here? I'm also delving into the mathematics ones as I've forgotten WAY too much over the past decade and considering, perhaps, some physics and literature. I also noticed there's an entire Chinese series in the language section but I'm not sure I'm quite that devoted, yet.
As far as I read, EDX is a join venture of three universities (Harward, MIT and recently joined Berkely) and these are providing online certified courses which means if you manage to pass the exams they will provide certificates. To me it is just fun being back to classrooms and studying something which I was always fond of. I have had my highschool diploma in Electronics in 1988, then finished my associates degree in Physics back in 1991 in my home country IRAN and then in 2009 in UK I have studied again and I have been granted with a postgraduate diploma in Business Administration but I was always and I am still in love with Physics and Computers so I am taking some courses here in MIT OCW and in EDX both in Physics and Computer. Berkely is also providing a course as CS188.1x Artificial Intelligence which is different from 6.00 but I am registered and looking forward to see how is that one as well. Being a dad of a family of 6 doesn't give me a lot of time to study but I am trying hard to keep up as I beleive it worth to learn as much as you can in the fields of your interests.
@Shahrouz have you seen the courses through coursera? I'm also taking https://www.coursera.org/course/algs4partI as an excuse to refresh my knowledge of algorithms in general and to learn java.
@RoamingBlue, Thanks mate. It is very interesting. I just don't know how many watermelon I can hold with one hand :) ( It is a Persian proverb indicating you are not able to do so many staff at the same time). Specially I am planning a career move to Project Management and this also take a lot of time and energy. Anyhow I have submitted on this one as well :)) By the way, any of you guys know any good course for Project Management? :D
@Shahrouz this one looks like a pretty good overview: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/sloan-school-of-management/15-568a-practical-information-technology-management-spring-2005/readings/
Thanks RoamingBlue, I am actually looking for construction project management. but thanks anyway. really appreciate :)
*grins* here you go http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/civil-and-environmental-engineering/1-040-project-management-spring-2004/
Yes that's good one. thanks a lot. it deserve a MEDAL :) Although wish it had video lectures too :D
Yeah, I love the video lectures, though for me the deciding factor on picking what to take thusfar has really been whether it had a study group here or not. I swear, I've learned 10x more from the questions and answers here than I did in the videos.
Agree, interactive question and answer benefit the most but for progamming courses more than subjects like Construction Project Management.
I am signed up; I am Salah Eddine from Algeria, hope finding you on October for helping us; Think to MIT OCW and other University for this great initiative Good Luck Friends studie
