2. hartnn

are u sure about your question, because it has one negative irrational root and 2 complex conjugate roots...

3. DHASHNI

yeah i am sure

4. lgbasallote

it seems it's an application of the rational roots theorem and factor theorem...

5. DHASHNI

can u tell me the methodology to factorise cubic equations?

6. lgbasallote

1. Find one of the factors (maybe use rational roots theorem) 2. Divide the polynomial by that factor (the quotient will be a quadratic equation) 3. Factor out that quadratic equation (maybe using quadratic formula) that's how i do it...

7. DHASHNI

i do follow that method !!! but then that doesn't get worked out for this prob

8. lgbasallote

maybe it's prime then? could be...

9. lgbasallote

yeahhh...wolfram cant factor it either :(

10. lgbasallote

..well it can. but it isnt pretty

11. hartnn

even wolfram giving -1.5986 and 1.8+/-0.718 i ??

12. DHASHNI

yeah bt then i want that solved step by step...i wanted to knw how did they start

13. lgbasallote

one thing's for sure...it wasnt algebra

14. DHASHNI

hmm

15. DHASHNI

wat abt this prob : : x^3-2x^2-2x+6

16. DHASHNI

these are actually a part of a big ques... so it ought to be solved to solve the big prob!

17. hartnn

its the same problem...
