Open Study is a great resource for schools but because of some profile pictures, there is some problems occurring. There should be something stating what should not be revealed in certain pictures. For example, clothing in the pictures should be a certain length and not t0o revealing preferably for both male and females. And even there should be no kissing or any similar acts in the pictures either, and I have seen more and more of these kinds of pictures. This is not a website made to socialize but to learn and all users need to understand that. I really think the pictures should go through some administration before being allowed to be put up, but this is a rising issue and needs to be dealt with fast.

Agreed. I want to be able to send my students here with confidence, not afraid I'm going to get some angry parent....or that my older college students will be mad at me when their child sees something inappropriate.

O… K, I guess it's cool to repost this elsewhere mere seconds later. As I said in the other thread: This is a site made specifically to *bridge* socialization and learning. There's a reason we have chats here, and it's because we think the two can and should coexist. That said, if you consider a profile picture to be problematic, please report abuse on the user in question and we'll make a call on whether we agree or not and act accordingly.

I think the pushback is coming from the other thread suggesting that non-legal behavior should not be polieced and the rally cry that users should stand up for thier rights. Some users are now indicating their preferances. No worries!

Yep, totally okay with that! For what it's worth, I don't foresee any amount of community feedback making us change our policy on inappropriate images, policy which is significantly stricter than any legal rules.

I want to show this to tachers and parrnts with confidence that nothing "bad" will come up. Its always the first impression and when a person in authority sees something of such then students cant use this to the full potential

As the mod said, they're working to do that. However, without full control of approving every picture posted they can't. Perhaps there could be a personal setting that would ban all pictures so users wouldn't be distracted at all.

report her if you don't like it...it's cheesy and immature, but not really sexual and it's so tiny that you have to stare to see anything

the second example is also childish and immature, but again, it's an inch high. As students they should be taught to have more web-ediquite. Perhaps being a bit professional should be included in a open study.

You can report pictures. The pictures that users use as avatars can be reported by reporting a reply/question/chat and leaving a comment saying "(user's name who has the bad pic goes here) profile contains an inappropriate avatar". And if for some reason you cannot find a reply/question/chat by them, I don't see any harm in reporting a mod and notifying us that way. Just don't forget to include what user you are talking about and a link to the profile would be useful too. That is the best I got until something like having an option on a profile to report an avatar is implemented.

Or maybe we could have a setting where you can't see profile pics then that way people don't have to worry about seeing inappropriate things if they are to come up.

Bikinis are worn at the beach. Children can go to the beach. I see no real problem here. This isn't an office, and it isn't a school. We acknowledge that we have students, and we want to allow students to express themselves (in a limited way) within reasonable norms. Our reference point is basically described by my first paragraph. Are children allowed to see it in public? If so, I'm really not concerned about it. That said, the suggestion that's been presented a couple of times to allow you to blanket-ban all profile pictures is not terrible, if we find the time to implement it.

I'm going to say something that might give the devs more work if they agree to pursue it but it's for the best if it's considered and if not, i believe they have a good reason. but here's what. since people have their own opinions on what's "right" and what's "not right" with regards to the pictures, could you guys give the users the option to hide a picture they don't agree to being appropriate while report abusing it so that even if no action is taken since it is deemed okay, the user will at least feel okay that he can't see that picture (s)he dislikes?

i honestly think that your just being a bit dramatic @waheguru like really. if you don't like it, report it and move on. i find no issue in mods doing anything about it and people having their own opinions BUT dont sit there & complain, their just pictures, as long as there is no nudity i don't see an issue. just move along if you don't like........don't look at it if you don't like it. i know people may feel a little uncomftorable withsome of thepicsbut its how some people express them self. as @shadowfiend said its not an office or school, therefore this website is used by many that have no issue with it and choose to express them self in that sort of way. hey honestly you brought this upon yourself coming to a site that is full of young people that take thoes sort of pictures...............remember this is just my opinion and i mean no disrespect to any one.

Get rid of the option of choosing a picture or let upper levels have the option of getting to pick their pictures instead. Help me on my survery, Just answer a couple of questions and that would help a lot. It's on music :) http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/503732e9e4b08ecf834fa73a
