I know their were issues over land and slavery because most of the southerners wanted more slave states but Northerners wanted more free states.

The compromise of 1850 was agreed because neither side's case was very strong and a conclusive win was impossible. The result was that both tea and coffee would be served during the morning and afternoon breaks which was warmly received by India and Brazil. In international terms the compromise was a success
