Every time I have to describe a picture of something functioning as a cell I always use a city...specifically a military base because the gate that provides access to the post make for a great cell membrane!! An energy plant makes for a great picture of mitochondria (energy producers), headquarters (or for non-military the governor's office) makes a great nucleus, and so on and so forth.
