    I would say either peer review gives a writer a chance to make necessary mechanics edits or peer review gives a writer a chance to see his or her draft through others' perspectives because technically it does both.

    It is the last one. Your peer is generally your age, so they have a minimally different perspective. It's useful to ask them about their opinion on certain things like essays.
