A candle is 17 in. tall after burning for 3 hours. After 5 hours, it is 15 in. tall. Write a linear equation to model the relationship between height h of the candle and time t. Predict how tall the candle will be after burning 8 hours.

    so save you have (h,t) h being as you said height and t being time. so you have h = mt + i m being slope, i being your intersection, t being dependent on h so take your points (17,3) and (15,5) find the slope, y2-y1/x2-x1 plug one of the points and new slope into y = mx + b and then solve for b using your points. then you have your general equation. plug 8 into your x and you'll find your y

    can someone give me the equation? I know the answer, but I can't figure out the equation part.

    @ksmithhoward do you know how to find the equation of a line through the points (17,3) and (15,5)? First, find the slope 2nd, find the y-interecept, using one of the points in the formula y= mx+b to find b
