\[\huge Use \ (x+a) (x+b)=x^2+ax+bx+ab \\ \huge = x^2 + 4x + 3x + 12 \]

- anonymous

@rannsan do u get that

- AriPotta

that's FOIL, right? i think it would be better if you explained what exactly to do rather than giving an equation, but that's just me

- anonymous

I did not get that

- AriPotta

you have to use FOIL. First times First, Outer times Outer, Inner times Inner, and Last times Last

- anonymous

1 multiply the first numbers in both the parenthesis x & x
2 multiply the outer numbers in both parenthesis ( x & b)
3 multiply the inner numbers (x&a)
4 multiply the last numbers ( a &b)

ok this is gonna sound really stupid on my part but how can I multiply if I don't know what x is?

- AriPotta

|dw:1348910674893:dw|
x times x equals 2x

- AriPotta

but that shows what's what if you can understand it

- hartnn

* x times x = x^2

- AriPotta

wait no, x^2

- AriPotta

yea, sorry!

- anonymous

ok

- AriPotta

does that make sense? do you know what to do now?

- anonymous

x^+12?

- anonymous

x^2+12 that is

- AriPotta

what did you do to get that? you're missing something

- anonymous

x^2+7x+12

- AriPotta

yep :)

- anonymous

whewwwwwwwwwwwwww

- AriPotta

good job :D

- UsukiDoll

lol what's with that big equation? XD

- AriPotta

a confusing equation of FOIL lol

- UsukiDoll

I know right. BIG FONT!

- hartnn

isn't LATEX interesting?

- UsukiDoll

that program that allows words and equations to go together

- AriPotta

what's latex? A milky fluid found in many plants, such as poppies and spurges, that exudes when the plant is cut and coagulates on exposure to the air. The latex of the rubber tree is the chief source of natural rubber?

- hartnn

lol!

- hartnn

can u write this : \(x^2\)

- AriPotta

\[x ^{2}\]

- UsukiDoll

\[x^{2}\]

- AriPotta

so the program that allows us to write that is LATEX? what does it mean?

- AriPotta

like, what's it stand for?

- UsukiDoll

yeah for higher level math courses to write papers about equations. lol is it hard to write a paper about a formula? I may need to do that next semester.

- hartnn

yup, the formatting way is called latex...

- UsukiDoll

ummm Lamb Alligator Tiger Elephant Xanda lol Xanda Panda

- hartnn

lol !

- UsukiDoll

does anyone have experience in Linear Algebra?

- AriPotta

when i first read your comment "isn't LATEX interesting?" i thought you were making a sexual joke and latex was in all caps because you were emphasizing what you wanted.

- UsukiDoll

oh like Latex ahhem all the boys should know

- UsukiDoll

LOL Martha Speaks icon

- hartnn

any specific question @UsukiDoll

- UsukiDoll

yeah you got experience in LInear Algebra? what's it like?

- AriPotta

a harry potter, martha speaks icon

- AriPotta

martha's decked out in scar and wand

- hartnn

much like algebra.....equations and matrices.....

- UsukiDoll

so you've taken the course?

- hartnn

i have completed that years ago.....

- AriPotta

years upon years.

- UsukiDoll

lol help a future mathematician out X)

- hartnn

sure....whats the doubt ?

- UsukiDoll

ummm everything. lol I'm scared of taking Linear Algebra. x*

- hartnn

don't be scared, with practice its easy.....and i'll be here to help u with any difficult problem....

- UsukiDoll

thanks
