Consider the functions f(x) = x2 − 13 and g(x) = x + 5. What is the value of (f + g)(3)? −4 4 −32 8

    f(3) + g(3) substitute x=3 into the function f then substitute 3 into the function g then add the answers together

    f(x) is a function containing x if you want f(3) you want a function containing 3's so wherever x was originally you would replace them all with 3

    to get f(3) put x=3 in f(x)

    so for your function f(x) = x2 − 13 you want to replace all x with 3 so you get f(3)=3²-13 then do the same with g then add your answers

    f(2) = (2)2 - 13 and g(2) = 2 + 5?

    f(3) = 9 - 13 = f(3) = -4
