You mean the names of them?
The moderators are in purple and to the right of the name it says moderator, and then administrators have an A at the beginning of their names and it says Ambassador
For example @TranceNova is a moderator....sorry for notifying you though Trance...just showing this person who you guys are
Admittedly I am curious, why do you want to know? -I think there was a thread about this awhile ago, I'll see if I can dig it up.
i saw this list somewhere: of admins mattfeury (oddly) farmdawgnation shadowfiend cshalvey chris preetha dpflan Heisenberg walne Owlfred
Admins and mods have their name in purple. Ambassadors have the A next to their name.
I know that, but which ones are admins? I know ShadowFiend is one.
Here's the old list (by Myin, no less): Admins (and I probably can't list them all) : Laura* Cshalvey farmdawgnation shadowfiend darthsid dpflan sandeez preetha ashwinram mattfeury chris --- Moderators amistre64 myininaya turingtest trancenova blues anaseer jamesj jagutuba (or however you spell that guy's name) Though we have gained some mods since :) http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4f887fcbe4b02251ecc96c0c
You can not tell a difference between mods and admin by their appearance on site.
Just by how they sneak in and out ;P
Can a moderator de-mod himself?
What's it matter?
So if a mod didn't want to be a mod, he just couldn't click a magic button?
Nope, nor do we know the actual process of being "modded" (atleast I don't..)
I can't do anything to myself unfortunately.
So only admins can de-mod.
Whats the point you are trying to make?
Yes only the turkey de-boner gets to de-bone while the others watch.
De-boner? lolwut XD
Yeah, the admins probably have to code it directly... or something less shiney than a button anyway.. Myin, that just sounds creepy!
And you can't just become a moderator they have to see that you are a responsible user, over a certain amount of time
I wonder if you guys an see my IP.
The mods can
If someone gets IP banned, and their IP changes, and the other person gets their IP, will that person be banned?
You have a lot of names linked to this one through your ip. That is all we can see. We can't see the number.
However, admins can see the actual number.
Just don't get banned...it's not that hard to not get banned, just don't do inappropriate stuff
I have somewhere around 30-40 accounts linked to this IP. I actually use them too.
Is that a bad thing?
I'm not sure if it is "okay" to have multiple accounts per se, though we will see what the admins say. I figure it is mostly okay so long as you don't give yourself medals, fans or anything else that might increase your score. Also any warnings or suspensions occur across all of your accounts so keep that in mind and keep to the code of conduct.
There are some accounts that you can't warn because I have a few accounts recovered on here. I have the passwords to useraccounts that I login to, so warning me also means warning them, which isn't fair.
Hmmm I'm confused, do you mean other people use your accounts too?
Other people use my account, and I sometimes use theres. So the IP tracing on this IP will be fuzzy.
Use 1 account, your own
I use alternative accounts because I don't like to be on this one all the time. >.<
Hmm fuzzy indeed, Though the whole idea is that it is supposed to be one person, one account. However in this case, given its so tangled I think it would be best to wait and see what the admins think.
The admins are going to hate me XD
I doubt they will hate you, though there may be the possibility of them requesting you stick to the one account.
I can list the accounts that I've recovered and others have recovered for me.
So, the fact of the matter is that giving your password to other users is in violation of our Terms of Service, which *is* a suspendable offense technically speaking. I quote: "In consideration of your use of the Site, you agree to [...] (b) maintain the security of your password and identification;" That said, I really don't care enough to go hunt down everyone that's possible sharing passwords. If you're not causing damage to the site and you're not disrupting other's attempts to learn then it's not worth the effort required to pursue. But I will inform you that if one of your accounts get suspended, we can - and likely will - suspend all of them if they start popping up after a suspension. So, in all honesty, if you want to protect the innocent in the event things get hairy with your account, you should tell them to start using their own account. myininaya is correct, admins are the only ones who have moderation-granting abilities. Actually, the subset is a bit smaller than that technically speaking. Since you have to make the change directly on the database only those of us who have access to the server can actually make the change. :P However, the decision to mod someone is by committee.
Ok, I see. I will tell remove all the accounts from my computer. I don't want to get my friends banned.
EVERYBODY. Yes, everybody is the answer. This is a self-moderated website, and it is you who helps moderate the site. Some people are just like the representatives... known as the moderators. But I proudly say that I am an important member of the community, and you can say that to yourself too! Just be honest and enjoy moderating!
