    French Empire - France and territory in Italy and Germany annexed directly to France by napoleon. Dependent states - these included countries where Napoleon had forcibly deposed the monarchs and placed his relatives on the thrones Allied states - these were states that had either been long term allies of Napoleon, such as Bavaria and Saxony, or defeated enemies forced into alliance through peace treaties unfavorable to them.
