    (1/2) < (1/2)x + 2 subtract 2 from both sides 1/2 - 2 < (1/2) x -3/2 < (1/2) x now divide both sides by (1/2) -3/2 / 1/2 < x (-3/2) * 2 < x - 3 < x or x > -3
