rewrite both equations with 12y (3)5x +(3)4y = (3)12 (4)3x (4)3y = (4)18 15x +12y = 36 12x 12y = 72 add both equations ** +12y and 12y cancel each other out you're left with: 27x = 108 x = 108/27 = 4 sub x = 4 into any of the 2 original equations and you'll get y=2
