On the question of trench warfare, soldiers experienced unsanitary conditions including rat infestations...and something called "trench foot" among many others things, including moments of extreme boredom (as both sides waited for the other to do something) and high stress (also while waiting for the enemy do so something). As for an economic consequence after WW2, a decrease in tariff revenues would probably be best. An effort was actually made in the US to lower tariffs after the war, thus decreasing how much revenue they would get from them, since there was really little competition after the war. And for the Roosevelt Corollary, it helped the Dominican Republic in 1905 with its debt issues.
