So from trial an error you get when x=9, f(x)=0 x^3-14x^2+47x-18=0 (9)^3-14(9)^2-47(9)-18=0 So, (x-9) is a factor of f(x) Then use (x-9) to divide x^3-14x^2+47x-18=0
