John Quincy Adams became president in the 1824 election and was president from 1825-1829. His opponents included John C. Calhoun, William H. Crawford, Henry Clay, and the hero of New Orleans, Andrew Jackson.. He left office on March 4, 1829, after losing the election of 1828 to Andrew Jackson.
