well starting with \(f(x)=|x|\) if you want the x-intercepts to be x=8 and x=-12, I would shift the graph down by 10 and left by 2.

    so \(f(x)=|x+2|-10\)

    \(|x+2|-10=0\)\[|x+2|=10\]
