rational are those numbers which can be written in p/q form where p and q are integers. example : 4 = 8/2 or 0.5 = 1/2 etc irrational numbers are those numbers which cannot be written in p/q form example: squareroot(3) , squareroot(5), squareroot(6), pi etc squareroot of every nonperfect square number is an irrational number

2. anonymous

ok.but is the number$\sqrt{8+\sqrt{18}}$ is rational???

3. anonymous

no its irrational number because 1) 18 is not a perfect square number 2) the whole expression inside the big squareroot is also a nonperfect square number. thats why its irrational number

4. anonymous
