Find the center, vertices, and foci of the ellipse with equation 2x^2 + 9y^2 = 18
|dw:1352907058035:dw| details are given here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipse#Focus
but what would the next step be?? @experimentX
find the eccentricity ... the vertex is given by 'a' and the foci are given by 'a times eccentricity'
2x^2 - 9y^2 = 18 Dividing by 18 on both sides, x^2/9 - y^2/2 = 1 which is a hyperbola and that too a standard one. Please refer Math class XI for further details on this topic. Source(s): I was a JEE topper :-)
