what two factors determine whether an area of the earth's surface is a tropical, temperate, or polar desert, grassland, or forest?

    In general the climate tends to control what vegetation type (those ones that you listed) can occur where. What two factors do we normally talk about in climate? We generally use the same two factors when we talk about weather too.
